degree project 2nd visual Idea
So Before The opening screen was full of all these different colors. After talking with Kidwell he suggested to use color sparingly until you roll over this information so its more interactive? I think I kind of like it!

Degree Project progress
I am trying to come up with a basic look and feel to the brand of my website. I want the colors to be very calm and inviting. I am also focusing on how you can categorize these colors and put them into groups. For example are the blue ones a photo, yellow a video, and pink just a text based experience? And maybe there are tags to the stories and once you enter them the dots cluster together to match your tags? The ripples around the circles represent the interaction of users. The more a story is liked or commented on the larger the circle grows. I am playing around with names but have not come up with anything yet. I want something to relate to the idea of growing together, embracing each other, sharing, ect.

Senior Show Bio
My name is Johnna Pasch. I enjoy the simple things in life such as watching people wipe out on treadmills, the beauty of awkward silence, and cute bug-eyed puppies. I am a creator at heart. I only joined girl scouts for the arts and crafts. I have learned to channel my passion for creating into graphic design. My design is a tool to create a feeling and tell a story. Please enjoy the senior show.

site direction
Going along with the theme of my portfolio I have taken clips of my work for my homepage. When you roll over the clips there will be a little animation on rollover. Once you click it will take you into the full project page. I have also kept my personality (which I find humorous) by linking the "I like" out to an actual reference. They will be videos or photos.

Artifact Direction
Thinking of my final artifact for my degree project was challenging. I decided that I really need to focus on the mood and feelings that are behind this. I want to be able to have a group of people share their feelings about caregiving. I got my initial idea from we feel fine.
http://www.wefeelfine.org/
I want to create a website that has a visual element floating around the screen. No order, structure to these things. You just click on one at random for a spark of happiness. Now taking a spin on this website I want it these things to be video, photo, or maybe just text. It can be all sorts of mediums. I also want these moments to be able to commented on, or "liked".
My goal to get people to want to be a part of this is give them some sort of award system. My thoughts are that after they do a set number of posts they will eventually get a poster in the mail of their information. A graphic element that shows their moments. But the kicker that brings this all together is it will also show how the community interacted with their moments. You will get to see how you have effected others and how
your happy moment has helped others have and share the same kind of moments.
My Thoughts now are focused on how to get these people to come to this site. Is it something thats placed in the work environment that directs them to the site? Is there a prize system involved in getting people here?
I want this site to feel happy, and light hearted. The images below are a visual inspiration to what I want this to look/ feel like.

Leave behind ideas
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately on branding myself. What I have realized is it usually really forced and I always feel like I am not representing myself correctly. I have decided just to start having fun and doing what I love to do... Someone is bound to appreciate it somewhere. When they do, I will work for them. End of story.
I figure sometimes people in the professional world get caught up in their projects and daily routine. This is a rough sketch of the desk pet activity sheet. I thought it would be cool to have all these different parts you could mix and match to create your own pet. It could have a little stand to set on so someone could keep them out on their desk. When they look at it they will think hey, I got that from Johnna. She was cool.
Idea 2: Flip Book / Accordion Comic
This is a little flip book of a character I will create. He can pop up and say something silly, do something cute like stick his tongue out at you , and then go away. When he goes away my name could be at the end with contact info. I was thinking a flip book may be a lot of production work, but I could be wrong... If it is too much production work It could easily be turned into an accordion comic. It wouldn't be as cool, but its an idea.

Experiments/Assumptions
Over winter break I have gotten in touch with several direct contacts. I have actually been allowed a part time position back at the job I was working at taking care of mentally challenged people in their group homes. It has really been nice to get back in touch doing this kind of work and it has helped me think of ideas for my degree project. Having all of these sources around, I am very confident that however my project ends up I will be happy with it.
Some things that I have assumed:
Assumption: People who have to work with or deal with mentally challenged people don't get to talk about it to others as often as they would like.
*experiment: Get direct contact with these people and ask them the following
Q. Is there anyone that you get to talk to about the struggles and strengths when taking care people?
Q. Would you like to have someone to talk to?
Q. What kind of person/people would you like to talk to?
Q. Would you like this interaction to be in public or more private?
Assumption: There are happy, exciting, and good feeling moments when doing this type of work.
*experiment: Ask the following:
Q. What makes these moments happy?
Q. What feelings do you get once a moment is experienced?
Q. Is it strong enough to relieve the stressful moments temporarily?
Q. Would you want a way to share these moments to help make others less stressful?
Assumption: People want a source to help them connect with others who have the same type of problems so they can have a sense of belonging.
These are the questions I want to ask myself and try to find answers to.
Q. What kind of mediums would be useful?
Q. How could you allow a more physical experience through something like a website?
Q. How can bonds be created?
Q. How does this experience really effect someone and last?

Plan of Action
1 yr.
It is very hard for me to think about where I will be in 1 yr. I know that I want to be working at a local design firm. I am not sure yet where that will be but I have a few places In mind. My first pick would probably be Hallmark. I enjoy making cards, and telling stories through my graphic design. This is why I feel I would like Hallmark. I have shown interest in them for quite awhile. I have a contact there and I plan to get in touch with them to look at my portfolio. I know that the competition there is high but I am going to keep faith. I am currently interning at Design Ranch and I feel I am getting a lot of useful experience there. I would hope to stay interning there for as long as I can. I am really learning the business side of how a design firm works, which is something students sometimes overlook. Other places I have looked into are C3, and The Nelson. I have interned at the Nelson and feel that I have made some very close connections there. They are a small group and may not always be hiring but if there was a position open I would most likely apply. I really enjoyed interning there. I have had a lot of experience and I am going to stay hopeful that it will pay off in landing me the best first job. :)
3 yr.
I hope to be at the same job I got right out of college. I want to stay in the same place for awhile to really gain experience and build my portfolio. I want to be living comfortably and start to focus on the things I never had time to do during school. I want to do more side projects such as sewing, crafts, ect. At this point in my life I am just enjoying everything I have worked hard for. I also have thought about opening my own business so I would maybe start to think harder about this and see what it is going to take if I go that route.
5yr.
By now I have been working for 5 yrs. and hopefully have been able to save up some money. The thought of having a savings account seems so far fetched. I want to be financially stable and stable in my career. If I do decide to open my own business I think I would do that around this time. Hopefully all the research I did 2 yrs before now will pay off. It is a big step so I am not sure if I will be ready for this, or if I will still want to be working for someone else. I really like the idea of security and risking that may cause me to not do the "my own business" route.
